Tips for viewing our VCC via Live Stream:

  1. Use WiFi if possible. Certain areas of the valley have poor cell coverage and while YouTube generally downgrades quality for pre-recorded videos, it does not have ability to downgrade live streams during the broadcast.

  2. If at all possible, do not screen-cast or airplay your device’s screen to your TV or other viewing platform.  Doing so can add latency and can put the audio and video out of sync.

  3. Use a Smart TV or smart device (ie. Roku, Chromecast or Apple TV) and download the YouTube App. You will get the best quality out of using the App.  You can also just plug your computer directly into your TV using available input ports.

  4. Make sure that your viewing settings are on the highest available quality.  We normally broadcast in 720 but will be working on upgrading the quality to 1080, so check this regularly.  YouTube sometimes changes back to a standard definition resolution which makes the video really grainy.

  5. Make sure your volume in both the YouTube window and your main computer volume is turned up.

The speed of your connection and the type of devices you’re using play into the quality of your viewing experience.  If you’re looking for smart device recommendations, I would highly recommend (from personal experience) either a Roku or Apple TV Device.  Chromecast works well in many cases as well, but the Roku and Apple TVs just work well out of the box.

Also, one final tip:  On some devices, it’s harder to locate “Live” broadcasts on the YouTube apps, so I would suggest creating a login to YouTube (You can also use your preexisting Google or gmail accounts), subscribe to the VCC Tri-Valley YouTube channel and click the “Bell” so that you get an alert whenever we put up a new video or go live.

Finally, feel free to reach out to us if you have any issues or questions and we will try to help you navigate through this!  We may not be able to respond during the live broadcast, but we will try our best to help!
